(255) Postcard Birling Gap, Sussex Coast - card over 30 years old
A STAFFORDS POSTCARD, no photocredit.
Used postally 1976, stamp still attached. The low point of the cliffs at Birling Gap is formed by the bed of an ancient river, which is why the chalk is coloured by the silt deposits washed down from the high weald towards the sea. The cliffs on either side of the gap are primarily chalk and are hence very prone to crumbling before the onslaught of high seas and gales.
This card is in very nice condition indeed - even though it shows a rather bleak image!
