This is the July 29th 1939 issue of Modern Wonder magazine, published by Odhams. A tabloid size magazine, it carries articles and stories with photographs and illustrations, in colour and black & white. Running to 16 pages, this issue has a colour center-spread on the anti-aircraft defences of Britain, a piece on Lloyd's of London, an article on the "science of painting", an essay on Hornet warships and more. There is a colour weekly episode of Alex Raymond's classic newspaper strip Flash Gordon on the back page.
This magazine is in reasonably fine condition, with small tears to the spine and page edges and some yellowing of the paper but solid and intact. A wonderful artifact of the era.
