Just in case you were wondering, this CD takes its title from the Southerners' joke about Watford being the 'last point of civilisation' before wary travellers embark upon the perilous route into cloth cap and whippet territory. We Northerners of course hold the opposite opinion - civilisation doesn't actually start until you're well North of Watford - but that's another story! Ah, but what about the music....? The second volume in KRL's own 'NOW' collections offers two dozen popular radio and club tunes. There was a time when club deejays were quite happy to slip all kinds of records into their playlists, and often the only thing they had in common was a kind of - to use a hackneyed term - 'feel-good factor.'

The words "Northern Soul" cover a multitude of sins, but it'd be stretching your credulity to its limits if I tried to claim that this is a set of Northern Soul tunes. Let's just say that it's a set of sixties and seventies oldies, that have proved their worth on both dancefloors and AM Gold radio stations, and leave it at that....

....except for a little bit of Ritchie-type musical trivia. On track 5, petite sixties songstress Billie Davis sings the very popular but just didn't manage to chart I Want To You To Be My Baby. You'll notice a very full vocal backing on this one, courtesy of some friends of Billie's (and Decca Records labelmates) - the Moody Blues. :o)
