Henry Hudson (1565-1611) was an English explorer and navigator who explored parts of the Arctic Ocean and northeastern North America. The Hudson River, Hudson Strait, and Hudson Bay are named for Hudson.
On 19 April 1607, Henry Hudson, together with his crew, took Communion at St Ethelburga’s prior to putting to sea in search of the North-East passage to India. This item commemorates the 365th anniversary of the event with a communion service taking place at St Ethelburga's Church, London EC2, on 19 April 1972.
