	UPDATE: owing to the closure of our local PO and the associated additional costs, I have been forced to increase my postage charges. (My nearest convenient PO is now a four-mile drive away, rather than a ten minute walk.) But, I will always combine postage charges, and will continue to keep them as low as possible. Since it now costs me up to £1.45 to post a single CD, (and I don't charge buyers anything for the packing materials) I think £1.49 is quite reasonable, don't you? :o)

Review

The unique presence of Bela Lugosi - the original Count Dracula - graced many films in a career which took him from the stage in his native Hungary to stardom in Hollywood, followed by a long decline through a series of increasingly-tacky horror movies. As lovers of Z-grade movies will be well aware, his final appearance onscreen was posthumous - in Ed Wood's zero-budget accidental classic Plan 9 From Outer Space. (This seems strangely appropriate for an actor whose name is synonymous with vampires!)

Here we catch up with the vintage vampire-portrayer in a distinctly oddball 1947 offering, in which he is cast in a sinister part as usual, this time as a strange hypnotist. The tale is an odd one, as it is narrated by a dead woman from her slab in the morgue. Scared to Death is an ambitious title, particularly bearing in mind the movie's U certificate. It is unlikely to produce such a dramatic result in viewers, its most interesting feature being that it's Lugosi's only starring role in a full-colour movie. The rest of his Hollywood movies were plain black and white.
