Welcome to our auction! Our next item to come up for bid is Lot #2k70071, a December 1930 edition of The VOULUNTEER CHOIR. A Monthly Magazine which is "Devoted to the Interest of Untrained Choirs." This song book was published by the Lorenz Publishing Co. who also published "The Choir Leader" and "The Choir Herald" for choirs of varying degrees of expertise, as well as, other church music books. Overall dimensions are approximately 7x10 inches.
This particular item is another from the box we bought off the back of an old farm wagon at auction in southern Indiana. Like many of the other items it has some condition issues that we need to bring to your attention before you place your bid. There is a general discoloration which we believe to be consistent with a paper item of its age.
Other issues include someone having written a name in pencil on the top right hand corner of the cover. It might have been the original owner or it may be in the hand of the choir master or mistress. We have no way of knowing, but it is clearly visible in the accompanying photo, along with some wear on the bottom edge and some bumping of the corners.
What isn't apparent in the picture is that the spine is worn through and has separated from the bottom up to about two thirds of the way up. In addition, the top corner on the back page has been folded over at some point in time. And there is a tear, approximately one inch long, on the top near the "M" in the word music.
This booklet is made up of sixteen pages including front and back covers with the inside front being numbered as #34 and the inside back cover is #47. This is not a defect. The item is not missing any pages. We have been informed that this type of page numbering is used because with a number of issues in a volume the numbering continues through the entire volume. This particular edition is labeled, Vol. XVIII, No.3, and we think it will be a splendid addition to someone's collection of vintage song books.
Please note that this object is approximately 77 years of age. We have no way of knowing its surroundings during those years. Therefore, we cannot warrant that it was in a smoke and/or pet free environment. If this is a concern, you may wish to refrain from bidding on this item.
