The Best of The Platters : 18 Classic Originals

The Platters were about as far from Rock'n'Roll as you could imagine, but their smooth ballads made them one of the most popular vocal groups of the decade. Topped by the soaring lead vocals of first tenor Tony Williams, the Platters chalked up hit after hit from the mid-fifties onwards. Their light dimmed as the original Rock era passed, but they left an everlasting legacy of songs behind them, and eighteen prime examples of their best efforts are included here. These are all the genuine original recordings, not the later remakes, so it's the real deal here.

Very much a product of their time, the music here is (depending upon your age!) either hopelessly-cobwebbed, or gloriously nostalgic. The latter is my opinion :o)
