Microsoft Guide to Buying Software:

Considering a purchase of software? Be sure you are not at risk of fake software.

Did you know:

  • Using counterfeit software means you are 4 times more likely to be infected with viruses, trojan horses, spyware and malware which can lead to internet fraud and identity theft.

Watch out for:

  • Clear CD cases with labels/text on discs, these are fake.
  • Beware of ‘back up’ CD’s or these words used in descriptions, this is not an original.
  • Do your research, don’t get caught out. If the software is too cheap, it is probably fake.

Ensure you are getting:

  • The Certificate of Authenticity (COA) this is a sticky label
  • Microsoft Software Manual & Media
  • End User License Agreement

Remember!

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) software is only for sale to System Builders, be aware that by buying and installing OEM software yourself, you become liable for your own support.
