The Foreign Buyer Scam

The foreign delivery address type scam:

The scammer in this case is a buyer who either lives in an African or distant country or wants a purchased item delivered to there. They then send a fake confirmation of payment (often more than the asking price) from Paypal or other agencies like Western union, escrow, nochex, pppay etc. to the seller. The seller, convinced that payment has cleared despatches the goods to the address provided by the buyer only to discover later that no payment was ever made.

What you can do:
There are ways of dealing with this type of scam:
- If the bidder asks for the item to be sent to an unconfirmed address or offers more money than the sale price forward the email to support@tazbar.net to get the user investigated. Do not send the item to the buyer.
- If you receive payment confirmation, check your Paypal / bank account to confirm that funds have cleared. If you think the email is a fake, you can forward it to support@tazbar.net .
- If you have experienced problems with similar scammers in the past or sell expensive goods eg. Electronics, specify clearly in your item description the countries you are not willing to ship to.You can also choose to have bidders from your own country only. This is a Control Panel selling preference..
- If you have reported a scam to Tazbar support, wait for Tazbar to advise you. Meanwhile don't communicate with the buyer and ignore any threatening emails supposedly from the authorities in foreign countries. As soon as action is taken, send any advert ids affected by the scammer to Support to get a full refund. You can then relist your item.
