    Freecycling Timewasters

I placed an offer ad in Freecycle on Tuesday and got dozens of replies including one from someone who wanted my stuff for her bootsale to raise money for a local hospice.

I replied straight away and 3 days later - she hasnt replied by email or phone to arrange pick-up.

I am having a big clear out this week because Annie is moving into my room and we need to clear the room so beds and furniture can be moved around safely while Annie is away this weekend.

Everything needed to be sorted by tonight because we want to get everything done tomorrow.

Looks like it will be put off again - as neither Gavin nor I can carry bags of stuff to the local charity shops and shift furniture on the same day.

It really bothers me that someone who collects for a charity - doesnt stay in touch - the PDSA in town will do well - most of the stuff is stock I used to sell on-line

    Re: Freecycling Timewasters

Hi Madhatter - I had forgotten I could report them to the mods on Freecycle.

I dont take any notice of sob stories on there - I generally just accept the first person who asks me for the items since I have no idea what any freecyclers are going to do with the stuff.

If I was raising money for a charity - I wouldnt wait three days to get in touch.

Anyway - the other freecyclers will have dipped out as I dont have time to make arrangements with someone else now - so the whole lot is going to the PDSA in town tomorrow - at least they are happy to take any donations.

BTW - just sold a box of videos for 99p - it was an eBay charity auction - ended up out of pocket as the minimum payment to Missionfish is £2. Just changed all the other charity auctions to BIN or best offer

mostly, that has happened to me in the past - but I am having to waste a whole day tomorrow dumping stuff at charity shops because of this time waster.

I can only do the work I had planned, this weekend because Annie is away for the weekend - was meant to do that tomorrow but I wont be in any fit state to do much this weekend if I am doing the charity shop run tomorrow.

I usually do that on Monday - but that's too late as Annie will be back at 9am Monday and the next time I can schedule the work is mid July.

    Re: Freecycling Timewasters

I've got same thing happening at moment...

offering to someone and no reply back, does happen sometimes...

I will be offering to another person who replied soon which you could do if you received more than 1 offer to take them...

you could always post them back on freecycle with must be collected today added..

you will find a lot of people can collect weekends as opposed to weekdays..

Freecycle sites are a great way to get rid of items that would usually go to the tip, especially bulky furniture and electrical items..Big Smile

I think its an excellent idea, have tried asking on there for a stair gate, but no joySad, the one I'd like is a retractable one, but as its expensive thought I could make do for now

Its a worldwide group split into different countries and different area's within them countries. People offer items that they dont want and people place wanted messages when they need an item (washing machines, freezers, laptops, toys, books etc). Its a good way of recycling items and saving them from just going in the bin.

    Re: Freecycling Timewasters

Another timewaster didnt contact me yesterday - so everything is going to the PDSA today.

Makes me wonder why people bother replying to my ads when they dont actually want the items.

The next stuff I need to offload is my packaging for vinyl albums and singles - have loads of flatish cardboard boxes left over from when I was selling the records - also have all the records I bought in to sell on.

Will place an add today - of course, if anyone from here wants to pick the stuff up they are welcome to them as a freebie instead

Freecycling is standing at your door whilst watching a couple trying to stuff a large two seater sofa into a knackered 3 door car...Stick out tongue

    and they succeed....Cool

Freecycling is getting sent an email saying you brightened someone's day from a video you sent them.

It was a 60th Anniversary Normandy veterans video I sent out recently to someone who's uncles were there at the Normandy landings

    Re: Freecycling Timewasters

Moony, fill each box with a record as if you was selling it and create a listing "business in a box" with a difference~nobody has to bid just do a bin for a penny and the courier cost of 7.99.

It could set up an enthusiat/collecter a treat and you would get your space back.

Worth a go and good luck

    Hi Debs

I dont think anyone would pay a couriers price for something that costs a couple of quid to post - eek!!

I need the space so Gavin has his own room so everything has got to go like - yesterday

    Re: Freecycling Timewasters

Moony,i was under the impression you had shed loads lol.

You could still market it the same way with the right ostage price~it might have more appeal~stick it in the wholesale section.

I understand it had to go yesterday but yesterday's gone.

Do you know anybody who could take it to the tip or charity shops  for you ?

Have you heard of dorcus,i'm not sure if there is one in your area.

They are an organisation which take away usable items and give them to one parent familys and low income familys.

    Re: Freecycling Timewasters

Just got a reply from freecycle - will let them know they can have the stuff.

Everything needs to go before Annie gets back on Monday as the next chance I have of getting our rooms sorted out is July and I dont want to have to tell Gavin he has to sleep on the floor until then
